Belfast Arts Campus, University of Ulster, Belfast (with DEGW and Todd Architects)

Whilst an Associate Director at DEGW, Donald Bentley led the architectural masterplan and interior design teams of the £25 million redevelopment of the Belfast Campus of the University of Ulster.

The campus accommodates the respected 5 star Arts and Design courses which was anticipated to double student roll over 5 years.  The existing 1930’s and 1960’s building were retained, extended and remodelled to significantly increase and upgrade studio, teaching and support space.  A link bridge across York Road unites the campus.

The design was based on detailed consultation with staff including space use observation and analysis that led to a strategic masterplan that allowed the project to be realised while the existing buildings remained in use.
