Treetops, New House Milngavie

The  site for the Treetops, a new house in Milngavie,  was extremely challenging with an overall fall of 9 metres and a 1 in 2 gradient.  Several mature Scots pine trees had to be retained and the site is within a private cul-de-sac in the conservation area.

The architect’s solution was to design a 3 storey tower house on the slope, linked back to the rest of the site by footbridge and car bridge through the trees.

A central glazed roof entrance hall was created, which catches sunlight for much of the day casting dappled shadowing through the glazing onto walls and floor.  The principal rooms are arranged beneath the copper roof at the upper floor where they open out onto a terrace at treetop level.
